Harnessing Your Hormonal Health to Power Your Business: Best in Class Insights from Sophie Stronell

For many women, career success means persevering even when we feel exhausted, irritable, and unfocused. Hormonal fluctuations can either hinder us or, when understood properly, help us reach new performance levels.

In this Best in Class Insights article, certified hormone health practitioner and Founder of Rhae, Sophie Stronell, shares her knowledge on harnessing your hormonal health to power your business. Over to Sophie…

Hormonal health isn’t just a wellness trend—it’s a powerful, often overlooked tool for career growth and professional success. I know this from experience.

My own journey began with a health discovery that reshaped everything I thought I knew about myself. For years, I struggled with symptoms that were dismissed or misdiagnosed. It wasn’t until I started IVF that I was finally diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). This experience transformed my understanding of how deeply our hormones impact every area of our lives - from mental clarity to emotional resilience to creativity, confidence and everything in between.

For me, it was a revelation. My energy, mental clarity, and confidence could all be linked to predictable changes in my cycle - and when I adjusted my approach to work around these phases, everything improved.

At certain times of the month, I know you're struggling with decision-making, a lack of focus and high procrastination; you’re hypersensitive to feedback, impatient, dealing with imposter syndrome, brain fog, forgetfulness and a whole heap of fatigue and self-sabotage.

I've been there too (and still am sometimes), and I wholeheartedly empathise. I want to tell you that you don't have to 'get on with it' anymore.

For many women, career success means persevering even when we feel exhausted, irritable, and unfocused. Hormonal fluctuations can either hinder us or when understood properly, help us reach new performance levels.

Our studies at Rhae shows that by aligning work with our hormonal phases, women can:

  • Improve productivity by 75%

  • Increase earnings by 65%

  • Reduce burnout by 50%

  • Boost confidence by 35%

Through hormone biohacking, I increased my earnings by 200% in four years, including a year off for maternity leave. Now, I’m on a mission to democratise the strategies I used to help women harness the power of their hormones and reach new heights in their careers. So, let's get into it…

THE HORMONAL CYCLE

Most women’s cycles have four phases, each with its own hormonal profile. Every woman's hormonal data is different, and challenges like PMDD, PCOS, endometriosis, and neurodiversity will impact hormones more significantly. Therefore, focusing on a personalised plan that meets your needs is essential. The following framework is based on an average 28-day cycle.

1. Flow (Menstrual phase) – Days 1-5

When energy levels are at their lowest, it’s normal to feel introspective. Many women experience heightened intuition during this phase, making it an excellent time for reflection and planning. I use this phase to evaluate my recent projects, set new goals, and recharge.

Actionable steps:

  • Strategic reflection: Consider your big-picture goals, projects, and career direction.

  • Creative planning: Use this time for brainstorming and long-term planning instead of pushing yourself with high-demand tasks.

2. Grow (Follicular phase) – Days 6-13

In this high-energy phase, motivation and focus are typically stronger. This is a great time to start projects or take on challenging tasks. I used to struggle through tasks daily without considering my energy, but now I prioritise my most challenging work here to maximise output.

Actionable steps:

  • Deep work: Schedule your most challenging tasks, such as problem-solving or strategic planning.

  • Networking: Connect with others and schedule meetings during this high-confidence phase.

3. Glow (Ovulatory phase) – Days 14-18

The ovulatory phase often brings heightened confidence, communication skills, and social energy. I use this time to pitch ideas, lead team discussions, or engage in collaborative work that requires strong interpersonal skills.

Actionable steps:

  • Showcase work: Schedule important presentations or high-visibility work for this phase.

  • Collaborate: Set meetings and collaborative sessions where your confidence and communication skills will shine.

4. Let Go (Luteal phase) – Days 19-28

The luteal phase is when energy starts to taper. Although I used to push myself to maintain the same output level, I now use this phase for detail-oriented work and project wrap-ups. It’s also an ideal time for organising and setting priorities.

Actionable steps:

  • Wrap up projects: Focus on finishing rather than starting new ones.

  • Organise: Review your to-do list and prepare for the next cycle to start refreshed.
